Activity
May Crowning
Goal: discuss how Mary the Mother of God is Queen of Heaven and Earth
Materials: Paper, string or wire, flowers (fake or real), glue or tape, statue of Mary or picture
Instructions:
1) Create a crown using either paper, string or wire and flowers.
2) Fashion the crown into a circle using the string and wire and attach flowers around the circle.
3) The size of the crown will depend on your statue or the picture you have.
4) After making the crown, create a place of honor at your house on a table or countertop. This can be as elaborate or simple as you prefer and have space and materials for--you would typically add more flowers to the area.
5) Bring the crown you made and place it on the statue of Mary or by the picture of Mary.
6) Pray a Hail Mary together or pray the Rosary--you can decide to stop at this point or do more.
7) Discuss what we know of Mary from the Bible. Share with your children why we venerate Mary--she is the Mother of God!--and talk about some of the Marian devotions (you can also talk about the many apparations of Mary like at Fatima).
8) Read the Bible verse below when the Angel Gabriel (our patron) appears to Mary.
