From Bishop Olmsted (3/16/20)

To the Faithful of the Diocese of Phoenix:

Two very significant issues have transpired in the last 24 hours:

  1. All public schools have closed in Arizona and all Catholic Schools have closed in the Diocese of Phoenix.

  2. The President has recommended limiting all public gatherings to 10 people, as well as other guidelines.

Effective immediately and until further notice, Bishop Olmsted is suspending all weekday and Sunday Masses, and asking for all parish- and diocesan-based public gatherings to be cancelled

Christian Charity Will Prevail

Throughout history Christians have served the community as a witness of love and care during times of illness. Christ is the center of our life and He will lead us through all challenges.

It is important to be smart and think about what each of us can do to prevent the spread of respiratory viruses. We live in a generation where information is at our fingertips; there are many sources of information that may not be accurate and may lead to increased fear. Our website will help keep you informed of important developments and equip you with critical information. Let us remember that we are united in Christ through prayer and a common spirit of love and trust in Him.

Our Lady of Guadalupe, patroness of the Diocese of Phoenix, pray for us.

From Our Pastor Fr. John Slobig

3/27/20

Friends,

We need each other more than ever right now.  Fr. David, the staff and I continue to pray for you, your families, our community, and our world.

While I would really prefer to see everyone in person, this time has enabled us to advance St. Gabriel Digitally.   In a few days’ time, we’ve determined how to bring you all

  • Sunday at 9:00 am Mass on our YouTube channel : Please Click Here

  • Rosary Monday - Friday at 12:00 pm with Fr David on our YouTube channel : Please Click Here

  • Activated Bishop Barron’s Word on Fire content for you on FlockNote.

See details under “REMINDERS” below.

I also feel compelled to talk about our offertory.  Of course, without holding Sunday Mass in person our plate collections decreased.   In February, our average plate collection was just over $10,000.00 per week.  This past weekend – the first Sunday we haven’t been together – it was down to just under $4,000.00 from that average.  This is a loss of funds in just one week of over $6,000.00 for our parish.  As you can see we really do need each other more than ever before.

I realize that many use the baskets to contribute their cash or checks and that we’re not physically here to do that.   To facilitate your ability to give we have other methods to contribute that many of our parish members are currently using.

  • Online Bill Pay. If you use online bill payment, please set St. Gabriel up and send your check(s) to: St Gabriel the Archangel – 32648 N Cave Creek Rd – Cave Creek – AZ – 85331

OR PLEASE SIGN UP FOR -

follow the directions to give one time or to set up your giving schedule.

And, of course, you can always mail or drop off a check to;

St Gabriel the Archangel

32648 N Cave Creek Rd

Cave Creek, AZ 85331

We are working with our bank to set up a couple more options to make contributions conveniently and will let you know when we have these in place.

The staff and I have been reviewing our expenses and making as many adjustments as possible.

May God bless you and your family,

Fr. John Slobig

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

Yesterday, Bishop Olmsted made the difficult decision to suspend Mass, Stations of the Cross, Saturday’s Confession, all Catholic School/Activities, Church office, and Ministry/other activities.   I’ve forwarded the full notification from the Diocese below.

It was important for me, personally, to say Mass and to hear God’s Word together as a community.   That said, while I’m saddened for this turn of events, I’m also in full agreement and support Bishop Olmsted’s decision.

I’d like to recommend a few online Masses for you to participate:

For the Eucharist, I’d like to encourage you to make an act of spiritual communion.  Archbishop Jose Gomez, President of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops has provided this prayer:

“I wish, my Lord, to receive you with the purity, humility, and devotion with which your most holy Mother received you, with the spirt and fervor of the saints.”

I understand the fear, stress and anxiety that comes with situations like we are in.  I ask that we all pray for each other, for our St. Gabriel & Annunciation Catholic School community, for those who have contracted the corona virus and all those who are struggling in sickness.  As Bishop Olmsted reminds us, "Let us remember that we are united in Christ through prayer and a common spirit of love and trust in Him."

More information will be made available as we have it:
